The origin of Taunton AC stretches as far back as the 1880's making it one of the oldest clubs in the country. Today Taunton AC remains the only affiliated club in the area of Taunton Deane, West Somerset & Sedgemoor offering opportunity in track & field, as well as cross-country, road running, and sportshall athletics.

Since 2001 we have been able to almost treble our membership, and have enjoyed much team success in a variety of competitions, whilst individual members of the club have competed at county, regional, national and international level.

We recognise, however, that competition results are not the only measure of a club's success. Our primary aim here at Taunton AC is to witness individuals enjoying sport, fulfilling their potential and at the simplest level just being active and enjoying the physical and psychological benefits which sport brings to our lives. We try to achieve all of this through quality coaching and appropriate competition.

TAC were among the first in the Southwest to gain Club Mark accreditation (Sport England's stamp of approval that Taunton AC is a child-friendly, safe and effective club for young athletes), and in 2005 were voted UK Athletics Junior Club of the Year 2005 for the South West region. Then in 2006 we won South West Track & Field Club of the Year.
